League Rules

General

Hero’s Axe House organizes leagues and tournaments primarily for the enjoyment and entertainment of our customers and the wider community. Our goal is to provide a space for competitive fun while fostering a family-friendly atmosphere. To minimize disputes during games, we have straightforward rules in place. We expect all participants to treat each other with respect during games and events at Hero’s Axe House. Furthermore, every player must have a current, signed waiver on file with us.

Hero’s Axe House will host League/Tournament nights on Thursdays. Should there be any changes to the schedule, notifications will be posted on Facebook, Instagram, and our website at herosaxehouse.com.

Participants will receive an ID for their enrolled league, which must be presented upon arrival for play or practice.

Open throw/practice sessions are available every Thursday night from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Depending on league participation, up to 4 lanes will be open for practice, with shared lanes encouraged. Standard targets will be used, and all safety protocols remain in effect.

Our tournaments and leagues will feature a standard 6-ring target, where the outermost ring scores 1 point and the red center, or bullseye, scores 6 points. Only the red center counts as a bullseye, which, beyond the 6 points, plays a crucial role in tiebreak situations. The green zone is worth 5 points but does not count as a bullseye. Bullseye counts are pivotal for resolving ties.

Kill shots, offering additional scoring opportunities, activate on the 5th and 10th frames. These shots appear in the 1-ring, marked by a white and blue ring. Misses, including any axe landing outside the 1-ring or not sticking, score 0 points. For axes landing on a line between two scores, the higher score is awarded. The on-duty Axe Master resolves any disputes regarding line hits, with their decision being final.

Hero’s Axe House, although similar to the World Axe Throwing League (WATL), operates independently, focusing on community engagement and competition. We are a standalone league, not affiliated with WATL, due to differing requirements.

Each game consists of a single round of 10 throws per player, with players alternating every 5 throws. Players must track their bullseyes and kill shots, crucial for tie-breaking. The maximum score per round is 64 points. Ties lead to additional 10-frame sessions to determine a winner, without affecting overall tournament scores. If ties persist after three sessions, players compete in a kill shot challenge for victory.

Safety is paramount; players must throw from behind the red line and stay in designated areas unless throwing. Personal axes are subject to Axe Master inspection for safety and compliance.

Alternative games (e.g., Battleship, Word Wack, Line up 4) may substitute the standard target, adhering to basic rules with any adjustments communicated before gameplay.

This revision maintains the original content’s intent while improving clarity and conciseness.

Players or teams must play their games as scheduled. However, if you must miss a Thursday game, the following rules apply:

• A BYE week is scheduled for makeup games. On this Thursday, a lane will be reserved for league catch-ups.
• Games can be made up during any open hours at Hero’s Axe House, subject to availability. No reservations are taken for makeup games, and priority goes to regular customers.
• Players may appoint a substitute for up to two Thursday nights during the league, provided the substitute is not participating in the current league, is not a Hero’s Axe House employee, and agrees to sign a waiver and follow all rules. A substitute cannot play for more than one team/player.

If a game cannot be rescheduled, the absent player will receive a loss, with no points awarded, while their opponent will be credited with a win and 50 points for the forfeited game.

Participants are expected to maintain a sportsmanlike attitude. Failure to do so may result in expulsion from the tournament. Decisions on unsportsmanlike behavior, based on security footage review, will be made by the owners of Hero’s Axe House and are final.

In the event of an emergency closure on a Thursday, participants will be notified as soon as possible, and an alternate date will be scheduled.

This revised version focuses on clarity and conciseness, maintaining the original intent while ensuring the rules and expectations are clearly understood.
